Will Your Heart Reach For Me

Alexander and Sarah's story

A Billionaire's Assurance  book 3

PROLOGUE

Alexander tilted his head back solemnly as he sat in the hardback chair by the window. His cream floor to ceiling length drapes were wide open as the sun set, giving him an admittedly stunning view of the back yard.

He closed his eyes as his fingers flew over the strings of his cello. The music to Adiago for Strings swelled around him and he lost himself to the music, his toes lifting off the floor and settling back gently as his bow glided smoothly across the taught strings.

Breathing deeply, his arms around his instrument, he rocked passionately in his seat as he let the music sweep over him.

His startling blue eyes narrowed as his phone lit up, the momentary brightness disturbing the serene peaceful state that enveloped him.

Hi Alexander. Are you picking me up at six to go to dinner? -Veronica

He put his bow down on the side table gently, maneuvering around his instrument. The curved maple and spruce wood instrument gleamed prettily in the light of the setting sun. It’s dissipating rays casting the room in a beautiful orange pink glow, providing him with the perfect backdrop for his solo performance.

He grabbed his phone reluctantly, not wanting to part with the peace his music was giving him.

Hi Veronica, I apologize but no I will not be picking you up tonight. Will you please meet me at the restaurant at six forty-five? I can send you an uber if you wish. – Alexander

Am I coming home with you tonight? – Veronica

We just met three weeks ago, I’d like to take you on a few more times… - Alexander

He pressed his lips together, tightening his fingers on the handle. His cello rested on his thigh, waiting.

Ok Alexander.–Veronica

Alexander checked to see if he had any communication from his teenaged son before he set his phone back down and took advantage of the hour of time left before he had to get ready for his and Veronica’s date.

His features tightened as he began to play to the music again, trying to find the serene peace he was so close to achieving before he was interrupted.

Alexander shivered, feeling the cold that everyone lamented was trapped inside of him, vying to be let free. Curling his fingers around his cello again he rocked as the music once more infiltrated the lonely and unfulfilled spaces of his mind.

And in his heart he heard her cry beautifully as worked vigorously, getting her tone and pitch perfect, hearing her somber call.

The cello is the only instrument that is the closest to the human register and he shook his head minutely with feeling as he coaxed a feminine note from the strings, forcing  his cello to wail somberly to the sounds of Chris Isaak’s I Wanna fall in Love.

His mouth tightened as his instrument sounded just like a woman crying out.

Alexander wished to answer her somber cry, and as he swayed he felt his heart stop beating momentarily. He wished to be enough, when it was time. If it were ever time.

If he could stop being so cold.

He so desperately wanted to be warm.
